Department Description

The ophthalmology department consists of the clinic, the ophthalmology division, and the operating room.

The ophthalmological clinic contains the ophthalmological devices necessary for examining the patient, who comes with multiple complaints, including low visual ability, pain ophthalmic infections.....and others. Among these devices are two slit lamps, each of which is connected to a monitor, with eye pressure devices attached to them, and the multiple lenses required for endoscopy (60, 78, 90). There is also a direct fundus endoscope and an indirect fundus endoscope with a 20 lens and the filters attached to it.

The clinic also has a complete ophthalmic unit (a chair with a projector to determine visual ability) and an advanced monitor to determine visual ability. There is also a computer, an automatic refractive error detection device, and a sciascopic telescope to manually determine refractive errors. As for the ophthalmology division, it contains 20 beds, and an emergency room that contains 3 slit lamps and a direct and indirect endoscope for fundus endoscopy with attached lenses. There is also an ophthalmology room containing A and B echo, a shadow fundus imaging device, a computerized optical field device, a YAG laser and an argon laser. It also contains Aljaval device to determine the reading of the cornea.

The operating room contains a microscope for ophthalmic operations, a phaco device, a vitreous cutter, and the tools necessary for surgery. Pterygium and cataract operations of all kinds (intracapsular, extracapsular, phacoemulsification) and vitreous cutting operations and retinal detachments are performed.

There are 28 postgraduate students residing in the in-kind department, divided according to years into: fourth year (6 Syrian students + 5 Iranian students), third year (5 Syrian students + 3 Iranian students), second year (two Syrian students) and first year (5 Syrian students and two Iranian students).

The department is supervised by the head of the department, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Ragab (in the capacity of a professor) and the professors: Prof. Dr. Abdel Qader Tata’a (Professor), Prof. Dr. Najwa Kurdghali (Professor), Prof. Dr. Qahtan Jalloul (Assistant Professor), Prof. Dr. Youssef Suleiman (Assistant Professor), Prof. Dr. Habib Youssef (Lecturer), Dr. Tim Darwish (Teacher), Dr. Fidaa Nassour (List of Works), Dr. Sondos Ali (trainee teacher) and a staff physician in the hospital: Dr. Ahmed Sayed Ahmed, contracted with the hospital: Dr. Nader Younes.
