Department Description

The mission of the sociology program is summarized in two aspects. The first aspect: the scientific study of human society and the process of social interaction that exists within it. The program serves both students and society by providing them with theoretical and applied knowledge using the sociological knowledge base, scientific research methods and their statistical applications as a means of analyzing contemporary social situations, problems and issues, and discussing the characteristics of local and Arab societies, developing and developed societies, social structure and the factors that affect the process of change and its effects. The second aspect is participating in empowering students scientifically, culturally and socially in order to contribute to the human development of society and providing them with thinking and scientific research skills through authentic and distinguished educational programmes, multiple cultural activities and field studies to raise performance levels and provide students and beneficiaries with applied skills to contribute to qualifying graduates for the labor market and distinguished researchers to develop Human knowledge and community participation


The Sociology program at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Tishreen University aims to:


1- Providing the student with the necessary theoretical knowledge related to the history of this science, its topics, and the various fields of its study.


2- Providing the student with knowledge of the methods of the scientific method in social research and social theories


3- Developing the skills of conducting scientific research and work related to the development process at the national, regional and global levels.


4- Employing students’ sociological skills to study the structure of society, its systems, its various stages of development, the nature of the problems that plague these systems, and the solutions proposed to address them.


5- Employing the statements and issues contained in the various theories in establishing and forming a theoretical vision for students regarding social impact, both in the case of stability and change.


6- Developing skills to work individually and collectively and communicate with co-workers effectively.


7- Developing ethical behavior and skills to deal with members of society with integrity and reliability in a way that serves their interests and safety.
