The second international scientific conference of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering begins its work

Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Bassam Hassan, President of Tishreen University, and with the participation of 216 researchers from Syrian universities, research centers, agricultural scientific bodies, and researchers from the brotherly country of Iraq, the activities of the second international scientific conference of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering began today under the title (The role of the agricultural sector in sustainable development to achieve food security)

Over two days, the conference deals with several research axes, the most important of which are the agricultural reality in the Arab world - the agricultural reality in Syria - food security - sustainable development goals and opportunities.

Dr. Bassam Hassan, President of the University, expressed his happiness that the conference was held in an active participatory environment aimed at transforming scientific research papers into applied agricultural projects that achieve food security and promote sustainable development, pointing to the great interest that the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering attaches to translating the state's policy in the field of interest in the agricultural sector and addressing its problems

The President of the University referred to the speech of President Bashar al-Assad during his meeting with the Ministers of Agriculture in Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon, and his emphasis on the importance of agricultural integration between Arab countries to overcome the problems of the agricultural sector, especially agricultural pests and desertification, and achieve food security.

Dr. Ibrahim Saqr, Dean of the College of Agricultural Engineering, stressed the pioneering role of the colleges of agricultural engineering in developing the agricultural sector to become a lever for the national economy by graduating the necessary competencies to work within this sector and the completion of original scientific research.

The Dean of the College of Agricultural Engineering pointed out the need to focus future research programs on improving the production efficiency of agricultural crops and reducing production costs, thus contributing to increasing the percentage of the agricultural sector's contribution to the gross domestic product and the percentage of exports.

Dr. Ayham Al-Homsi, Associate Director of ACSAD, explained that the agreement signed with the university opens new horizons for conducting applied scientific research in the field of developing the plant sector, animal wealth, land uses, biodiversity and integrated water resources management through benefiting from the infrastructure of both sides. To the projects implemented in the Arab countries that achieve food security and contribute to building human capacities working in the field of agricultural development.

Director of the Syrian Investment Authority Madian Diab A. pointed out that agricultural investment is the center of attention of the authority and at the heart of its strategy, as it seeks to enhance its role in sustainable development and achieving food security, pointing out that investment laws have given great attention to the agricultural sector through customs and tax incentive measures.

Dr. Yassin Al-Ali, Director of Reayati, confirmed that the partnership with the university is renewed in every scientific meeting, and that the conference provides an opportunity to review the latest and most important agricultural scientific research and its practical applications to advance the agricultural reality towards achieving societal economic recovery.

The opening of the conference was attended by the Director General of the Higher Commission for Scientific Research, Dr. Majd Jamali, Dr. Magda Mufleh, Director General of the General Commission for Scientific Agricultural Research, Dr. Nizar Issa, Director General of the General Authority for Biotechnology, and the President of the Agricultural Engineers Association, Abdulkafi Al-Khalaf, and Dr. Mirna Dalalah, Secretary of the University Branch of the Party and Director Agriculture in Lattakia in the name of Doba and academic, trade union, party and student cadres.

The conference will be accompanied by an exhibition of agricultural products, ornamental plants and products of the beekeeping industry.
