This department was created in the academic year 2003/2004 with the support of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA). It developed a modern study plan that included specialized courses in mechatronics from the first to the fifth year. Under this plan, engineers who graduate from this department will be able to deal with integrated engineering systems (mechanics-electronics-control). The department is currently taught by many teachers who hold a doctorate degree and have experience in teaching and scientific research. The department is also supervised by Japanese experts from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Many members of the technical staff also teach in the department, who are interested in the practical and laboratory aspects of the courses. The first batch graduated from the department in 2008, and the number of students in the department in 2010 is about 520 students. Each year, the department accepts a limited number of graduate students (Masters).
